Pioneer Woman Hot and Spicy Cowgirl Coffee
This recipe is the replica of the hot spicy cowgirl coffee that is served at the Pioneer Woman Mercantile. It is a sweet, creamy, and spicy blending of flavors. Topped off with a dash of hot Mexican chili powder.
Have you ever been to the Pioneer Woman Mercantile? There is a large menu filled with delicious main courses and desserts. We have taken many trips there and one of the must haves is a spicy cowgirl coffee. It can be served hot or iced. My favorite is the hot version, so my husband has recreated it for me at home.
My husband has become a self-taught amateur barista. We purchased a Breville coffee machine about six years ago and we agree it is one of the best purchased we have made. We love to show hospitality to others and coffee is normally part of it.
Winter is here and along with it comes more baking and early afternoon coffee to warm us up. I will use any excuse to enjoy more coffee. Try out this recipe and enjoy is with a sourdough chocolate chunk scone.

Tools you may need:
Breville coffee maker, frothier or shaker bottle
Ingredients:
Espresso – We like dark roast
Chocolate Sauce – We use single origin sweet dark chocolate sauce from Kyya
Mexican Chile syrup – Pink House Alchemy
Milk – We use raw whole milk, half and half can be used
Sweetened Condensed Milk – leave this out for a less sweet drink
Hot Mexican Chili Powder – Any brand
Directions:
- If using a Breville coffee maker, fill you mug halfway with water and place the steam wand, turn it to steam. This is to warm the mug. If you don’t have this option, fill the mug with hot water and set to the side while you make your coffee.
- Next is to push the portafilter to grind up the coffee beans, then place it in the espresso head.
- In the stainless-steel frothing pitcher, add the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate sauce, Mexican Chile syrup and milk.
- Remove the now warmed mug form the steam wand and set to the side.
- Place the steam wand in the frothing pitcher and turn it to steam, then froth the milk mixture until it is warmed and foamy. Turn off the steam wand and remove the frothing pitcher.
- Dump out the water in the mug and place it under the espresso head and press the single or double button. We use the single filter, and then push the double shot button, it saves a little coffee by uses a shingle shot of grounds, to brew a double shot of espresso.
- Pour the milk mixture into the mug with the espresso, then add a sprinkle of Hot Mexican Chili Powder to the top.
TIPS:
If you don’t have the option to use a frothier, a shaker bottle is the next best thing to mix up the ingredients. Shake the ingredients in the shaker bottle then warm the mixture in the microwave or on the stove.
I omit the sweetened condensed milk from this recipe since it is a little sweeter than I want.
Instead of adding the sweetened condensed milk try a vanilla syrup.
You can also make homemade syrups to use in place of the Mexican Chile syrup or vanilla syrup.
