Settler Beans
Have you been asked to bring a side dish to a cookout and want your baked beans to stand out? This settler beans recipe is for you. This is hands down the easiest and most flavorful settler bean recipe for the perfect side dish, it is easy to make and taste delicious. They are sweet and savory packed with enough protein for the main course.
These beans can be a thrown together and left to simmer in the crockpot, which leaves you coming home to a warm home cooked meal for your family. Served with a warm slice of sourdough. Although my daughter eats these with sour cream, shredded cheese and corn chips.

Ingredients for Settler Beans:
- 1 can of pork and beans, with liquid
- 1 can of red beans, with liquid
- 1 can of butter beans, with liquid
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder
- 2 tablespoons of Bar B Que sauce
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 diced onion, chopped
- 4 slices of crispy bacon, crumbled or 2 thick slices of smoked pork belly, chopped
- 1 clove of garlic, diced
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 2 teaspoons of pepper
Easy to follow directions for delicious Settler Beans:
- Preheat oven to 300-Degrees.
- Chop up pork belly into small pieces and place in a Dutch oven.
- If using bacon cook until crisp, drain on a paper towel then crumble.
- Cook Pork belly in Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Cook about three minutes then add onions and garlic to the pan.
- Cook for two minutes then add ground beef and lightly browned.
- Add the beans, sugar, brown sugar, chili powder, bar B Que sauce, honey, salt and pepper stir to combine.
- Bake in the 300° oven for 1 hour.

Can these beans be cooked in the crockpot? Yes, Fry the bacon to crisp, brown the ground beef, onions and garlic. Then add all the ingredients into a crockpot cook on low heat for 5 to 6 hours or high heat 3 to 4 hours.
What is the best way to reheat beans? Place in an oven safe dish, cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
Can I cook the beans from scratch for this recipe? Yes! Add soaked beans to a large pot cover beans with water, add salt and let the beans cook from 60 to 90 minutes or until beans are tender. Drain and add the beans when instructed in the recipe.
Are baked beans a starch or vegetable? Beans are considered to be a starchy vegetable. they contain high amounts of fiber and starch.
Do I need to soak my dry beans? Soaking beans allows the dried beans to absorb water. While the beans are soaking, they are doubling in size. use 3/4 cup of dried beans for a 15 ounce can of beans. Place the beans in a bowl and cover with water. The next morning pick out the cracked, floating beans and discard.

Ingredients
- 4 pieces Crispy Bacon or 2 pieces of smoked pork belly
- 1/4 Cup White Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Teaspoon Chili Powder
- 2 Tablespoons Mustard
- 1/4 Cup Ketchup
- 1/4 Cup Bar-B-Que Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons Honey
- 2 Cloves Garlic
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300° F.
- Place pork belly in Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Cook about three minutes then add onions and garlic to the pot.
- When onion starts to turn soft add the burger and brown it slightly.
- Add the remaining ingredients, cover with the lid.
- Place in a 300-degree oven and cook for 1 hour.
